Your Dollars At Work

Your Dollars At Work
With the revenues from the bookstore, online sales and membership fees, the CNMA funds programs and projects on the Colorado National Monument that cannot be funded by National Park Service fees or tax dollars. These programs are very important to the community and visitors and CNMA commits each year to fund projects specified by the park service. Since its inception in 1964, CNMA has funded over a million dollars in aid requests. You can help by becoming a member; donate now. Recent projects include:

Funding of Transportation for Local Students
Without funding some students would not get the chance to experience ranger-led activities. In 2013 CNMA funds brought 2,000 children to the monument for special activities. In the near future, we hope to cooperate with the NPS to provide a special trailhead and parking to accommodate the school groups.

Installation of Water Refill Stations
Cycling the Rim Rock Drive is a unique experience. Not only do the refill stations fill a need for the cyclists, this "green" amenity eliminates 132 pounds of plastic from the waste stream each year.

Wi-Fi for Convenience and Education
CNMA installed Wi-Fi equipment at the visitor center not only for the convenience of visitors, but to also facilitate use of educational apps in the future. CNMA also covers the monthly cost of the T-1 line which powers the Wi-Fi.

Walks & Talks Series
Another program funded by CNMA includes the Spring and Fall Walks & Talks Programs geared toward local adults and families and with an emphasis on discovering more about the monument's natural and cultural heritage.

Art Exhibits and Events
CNMA has also funded two special art exhibits highlighting the splendor of the Colorado National Monument. These art exhibits were sponsored in conjunction with the City of Grand Junction and featured the works of Mesa County artists and photographers.

Funding of Special Community Events
In 2011 CNMA, with the help of generous sponsors, contributed $50,000 toward the Colorado National Monument's Centennial, highlighted by a climb to the top of Independence Monument and a spectacular fireworks demonstration on the 4th of July. In 2016 the National Park Service will celebrate its 100th birthday and CNMA will provide support as requested by local park officials.
