Join “Cactus Man” Don Campbell for a PowerPoint presentation and learn how to identify a variety of cacti, succulents, and other desert plants. Is your junior ranger ready for spring?

Each year, about this time, in the weeks surrounding the vernal equinox, members of the National Park Service make the transition from winter uniform to summer uniform. Most noticeable is the change from long sleeves to short shirtsleeves; or felt hat to straw-textured flat hat; or the leaving off of wearing a tie to the open-collared look of the summer shirt. Is your junior ranger ready for spring? For outdoor photo opportunities and educational fun? Colorado National Monument Association is pleased to offer a full line of junior ranger attire in the visitor center bookstore and online.

As the days grow longer and the tour buses start to arrive, one piece of merchandise that seems to fly out the door in the shopping bag of each grandparent is our Wildthings Sanp-On T-shirt for kids. In hot pink, this shirt features butterflies. In navy blue, the focus is dinosaurs. With glow in the dark print – both shirts have Colorado National Monument emblazoned across the sleeve. A product as popular and irresistible as this, deserves a background story. Without further ado, here is CNMA’s buyer, Denise Hight with Meet the Vendor, the story behind the product.

The habits of desert bighorn

Posted by Sales Manager on 11/9/2014 to New Products
It has been a wonderful season for Desert Bighorn Sheep sightings here at Colorado National Monument. Mixed herds and groups of half-grown lambs graze calmly in the environs of Fruita Canyon, preferring Balanced Rock and Dead Man’s Curve for choice vegetation. Seldom seen are the bachelor bands that gather through the winter and frequent No Thoroughfare Canyon. In October and November the herd is social, dating, mating.

Looking forward to 2015

It’s October. The changing colors of the leaves on the cottonwood trees in No Thoroughfare Canyon and the golden stems of rabbit brush remind us the busy summer season is waning.

What is a bookstore without books? What comes to mind when you see the words local author? A cowboy poet? Some reclusive scribe living anonymously in a cave? An investigative reporter sleuthing secrets of socialites? Colorado National Monument is situated between the desirable western Colorado recreational and retirement communities of Fruita and Grand Junction and can boast shelving several books penned by local authors at the CNMA bookstore and available online.

European style oval stickers now available for Colorado National Monument

Posted by Sales Manager on 8/8/2014 to New Products
Time was when expatriates living in Europe were required to sport a vinyl USA sticker on the bumper of their automobile. This included American military personal stationed or posted in say, Germany or France. It was a mark of distinction as well as a way to stereotype, label, and brand. While driving in traffic, it was easy to tell if those committing a moving violation were natives or visitors; culpable or ignorant; in need of an embassy or a citation. These days it is popular to wear your travels right out there for all to see via an oval vinyl European style bumper sticker on your automobile. Get yours here at Rimrockshop or get yours in person on Rim Rock Drive.
